In 1633, the Black Plague swept across Europe, devastating communities and claiming thousands of lives. For a time, the small village of Oberammergau, secluded in the Bavarian Alps, seemed miraculously spared. Surrounded by mountains and forests, the villagers carefully guarded their borders, hoping to keep the disease at bay. Yet when the plague reached nearby Ettal, the danger was suddenly at their doorstep.
